Texas has so much state history that you could study it for the rest of your life. Though the entire state has a ton of great stories to learn, no place in the state has more to tell than Houston. Houston is not only the largest city in all of Texas, but it is also the 4th most populous city in all of America. With so many people packed into one small area and plenty of great history to celebrate, there’s no wonder that Houston, Texas is one of the highest rated places to celebrate in the entire world.
The city was named after Sam Houston who was president of the Republic of Texas. As Texas grew in population and industry arrived at the doorstep, both the railroad and oil industries really boomed big in the state of Texas. When any of those workers wanted to have a fun night out or needed supplies, they almost always headed to Houston to get what they needed.
Houston is also home to the largest medical complex in the world; the Texas Medical Center. There is nowhere else in the world where so many research facilities and healthcare providers are situated together, so many of the great medical breakthroughs in the last 50 years can be attributed to this facility. Even NASA has a large complex in Houston made famous in movies like Apollo 13 when Tom Hanks says “Houston, we have a problem”.
Setting aside all the history, it’s incredibly easy to see why people who live in the Houston area or anywhere else in Texas have a lot to celebrate on big occasions. When New Year’s rolls around, they can celebrate another year of being a Texan. When the 4th of July rolls around, they can celebrate being a cornerstone to the entire nation. People even buy sparklers in Texas when the anniversary of the Alamo come around, so there’s really no end to the amount of celebrating one can do in Texas.
Whether you live in Texas or are just planning a quick trip down there for the weekend, your trip should definitely begin and end in Houston. If you’re after a true Texas experience that is rich with history and culture, there is really nowhere else you should consider instead.
